Art Of
William Sutphen
About Me
WIlliam Sutphen is an American artist working with oils paints, metal and mixed media.
Sutphen was born in 1977 in Anchorage, Alaska and raised on the beaches of Malibu, CA.
As a young intuitive abstract artist, William was influenced by the works of Jackson Pollock, Basquiet, Francis Bacon, David Choe, Shepard Fairey and more while living in Boston, NYC and North Carolina, where he honed his various abilities while exhibiting his work and mentoring under artist Dave 0.
As a self-taught artist, Sutphen reflects his underground renegade techniques and deviant use of materials with a Mercenary Artist-for-Hire style and approach to creating his work. This overall aesthetic allows Sutphen to use whatever materials and styles that best serve his artistic vision for a project. Often while looking at an interesting piece of material and idea will emerge. Whether it be from metal, or leather, stone or steel, Sutphen draws his inspiration from his history living in various locations across the US.
From the vibrant streets of New York City to the natural serenity of the beaches of Malibu to the solitude of the Alaskan wilderness, through his art, William Sutphen takes us on a visceral experience across the entire American landscape.
